NORTH ROYALTON, Ohio — Olga Druzhinina, vocal and piano teacher of Olga’s Music Studio, became involved in a Cleveland-themed project dedicated to Mother’s Day.

Lena Moro, owner of Moro Design Studio, asked Druzhinina to create an original music file with a child voice singing “MAMMA!” by C. Bixio — one of the most beloved pieces from the L.Pavarottirepertoire. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=4&v=9Bo8bFOR5Js&feature=emb_logox.

She wanted to greet mothers of Cleveland not just with a pretty greeting card, but also to bring moms the best children’s voices of Cleveland singing through a QR code printed on their original Cleveland Mother’s Day Greeting Card. https://www.lenamoro.com/product/mothers-day-cleveland-musical-greeting/.

Druzhinina decided to organize an online competition for young Cleveland vocalists, 6-11 years old, also pursuing the idea of supporting local music teachers and encouraging students to continue their practice during the coronavirus quarantine. https://spark.adobe.com/page/fjtEMOIyYFMML/.

Participants practiced hard, learned difficult Italian text and music, and received consultations with their teachers over the internet. Parents organized recordings at home with all of them working together. This contest included many talented musicians and public persons who donated their time and respected names to be judges.

Young vocalists were fortunate to be listened to by the panel of judges that included Dr. Dorota Sobieska, executive artistic director of Cleveland Opera and an operatic singer; Joyce Mariani, president of Italian Cultural Garden and director of the Opera in Italian Garden; and Dina Kuznetsova, world-known opera singer and Cleveland Institute of Music faculty member.

All contestants received very helpful and serious advice from these masters. Judges evaluated the finalists, and the winner was Alex Cosma, with 98.6 points. His hard work was rewarded by a $100 cash prize from Moro Design Studio, organizer and sponsor of this contest.

Two other finalists included Evangeline Rahimov, 8, with 90.6 points, and Jaanvi Sanisetti, 7, who impressed the judges with her progress after taking voice lessons for just six months.

All finalists were rewarded with a professional photo session, “Mom, Music, Me,” by Lena Moro.

Alex and Eva both received the truly priceless prize — being accepted to sing in Cleveland Opera productions in 2020-2021. Alex also received an invitation to sing in the Opera in the Italian Garden/Cultural Gardens. All three finalists are students of Olga’s Music Studio, https://www.facebook.com/OlgasMusicStudio/.
